ROCK BALANCING WORKSHOP
Don’t stack them. Make them stand.
“Ishihana” is the art of balancing natural stones using only your hands.
A stone that seems impossible to balance can suddenly become perfectly still.
Experience that surprising moment for yourself.
The trial and error before the stone finally stands still is part of the experience.
EXPERIENCE
Explore the stone’s center of gravity and find the one point where it can stand on its own. No previous experience is needed.
Every balance is a one-of-a-kind form that may never appear in exactly the same way again. When your stone stands, capture the moment with your smartphone.
Once you get the feel for it, try more challenging balances with two or three stones. Enjoy the process at your own pace with guidance from the instructor.
Active since 2011, Chitoku Ishihana explores the tension and beauty found in the instant a natural stone comes to rest through his rock balancing practice, “Ishihana.” In this workshop, he introduces the fascination of working with stones in an approachable way for first-time participants.
